It can be frustrating putting in applications and not hearing back, we get it. Oftentimes, job postings are getting so many applicants it can be hard to keep up with. If you are wondering why you didn’t hear back, check out our blog for some explanation! But if you’re wondering how to follow up on an application, keep reading!
First things first, make sure that you read the whole job posting. Some employers specifically ask for candidates to not follow up. Some may say “please do not call or email”, to avoid them being flooded. So make sure that you are not following up with companies who will not appreciate the initiative. Typically, it is much easier to write a follow-up email rather than trying to catch them on the phone. Here are our tips on writing an application follow-up email.
Be Polite
Make sure that when you are writing your email that you keep a happy tone throughout, don’t imply that they forgot you or ignored you. Always keep your mind under the assumption that they are simply busy.
Keep it an appropriate length
They are already busy trying to sort through applications and schedule interviews, so they don’t have time to read an essay, make sure you keep it sweet and simple. Just getting to the point of what you would like to say.
Give a brief summary
Again, this is not an essay so make sure that you are not putting too much into the email! Just a quick one or two facts that you feel would make you a good fit for the position will suffice!
Proofread
This is a second chance to make an impression on the employers, so make sure that you are not sending something with poor grammar or punctuation! You want to sound professional and have your email reflect your personality.

Everyone has a different voice, so make sure your email does reflect who you are as a professional. If you would like to call them, you can follow a similar process, keeping in mind that these are short and to the point. You never want the employer to feel like you are hounding them!
