The world is still in a weird place, so to speak. Things are not how they used to be, so it’s a lot less common to be able to walk in somewhere and ask “Can I get an application?”. So most often, these conversations are done virtually. But what happens when you are putting in application after application, and getting nowhere? Here’s where a recruiter plays a great role, we can go to bat for you! Just one quick conversation with a recruiter can open so many doors!
How do you find a recruiter?
The easiest way to find a recruiter, and start a conversation is through LinkedIn. If you don’t have one set up yet, check out our blog to help you build a great profile! You can search your target companies to lead you to their recruiter, send a message, and boom! You’re connected. You can also search up staffing agencies, find a recruiter, and boom! You’re connected. Most recruiters allow almost anyone in their network pretty easily, it’s great to develop a pool of people!
How to initiate a conversation
Starting a conversation can be the trickiest part. It really is simple. Send us a connection request, once accepted, simply introduce yourself! Something as simple as “Hi (Recruiter Name), thank you for adding me to your network! I noticed your company is hiring for (job title), I was wondering what the process was?” Or, if it isn’t targeted at a specific position, something like “Hi (Recruiter Name), thanks for adding me to your network, I noticed you specialize in hiring (industry) professionals. I was interested in learning more!” It seems scary, but it doesn’t have to be!
The benefits of working with a recruiter
So you found a recruiter, connected, and initiated a conversation. Now what? What can they do for you? Well, first of all, recruiters have open doors that may not be available to the public. They have connections with employers, and most often, can put you in front of a hiring manager sooner than later. They constantly have their eyes on jobs, so you could be one of the first applicants should they see you being a fit. Having a recruiter in your toolbox is always beneficial, you never know when you could need some assistance.
Working with a recruiter, whether they work directly for a hiring company, or a staffing agency is always a good idea. They can give you tips, and help you get your foot in the door. Most often, they are just as excited to work with you, as you are them. Try reaching out, introduce yourself, learn more about what they do. You won’t regret it.
