Job search engines are the first step of any candidate’s job seeking process, and there are many aspects to consider when it comes to which job sites are worth using. To save you time, we put together our top job board recommendations based on our experience!
Indeed
Considered the most popular job site today, Indeed aggregates jobs to other sites to get the most traffic. It’s best for posting entry level and mid level jobs that are less industry specific. Indeed has proven to be straight-forward and user-friendly, and they allow for taking assessments and booking interviews directly. However, resumes created on Indeed are oftentimes not very visually appealing and can be hard to edit properly. With that, employers may not be seeing what you intended them to. Candidates should always be aware of the appearance of their resumes on Indeed.
ZipRecruiter
Like Indeed, ZipRecruiter is also very popular and does a great job enhancing user experience by recommending jobs and keeping candidates updated on the status of their resumes. Resumes look much better to employers on their platform and the matching algorithms seem to function better. From a recruiter’s perspective, there is a greater trust in the quality of candidates applying through ZipRecruiter. However, many users say that the platform’s mobile app is harder to use than other job sites.
The Role of Social Media in Recruiting
Monster has done a great job keeping up with emerging technology, and offers very advanced filter options to make the search process much more user friendly. From our experience, Monster has performed well specifically with light technical and industrial positions, where other job boards have lacked results in similar areas. However, many users have complained about the number of advertisements on the site. As one of the most widely used search engines, companies see it as a feeding ground to advertise.
CareerBuilder
Careerbuilder is a robust Business Intelligence platform which has allowed them to attract many employers to post jobs and use sourcing licenses. From the candidate perspective, it’s straight-forward and most effective for non-technical and non-industrial positions. While it does serve entry level positions, the site is geared more towards mid to high-level roles. From the recruiter perspective, it is not as affordable as other job sites.
TheLadders
TheLadders is geared towards professionals who are earning 100K+ per year. It’s an excellent resource for Sales, Marketing and Executive roles. They are up to date with technology and have a mobile app that is very easy to use. However, many users have complained about the technical issues while using the site and the lack of customer service when problems occur.
JobGet
JobGet is based in Boston and they are growing in their presence throughout Massachusetts currently. The platform is extremely user-friendly and it works great for posting jobs. It also allows employers to find the candidates themselves. The site’s best feature is that it allows recruiters and candidates to message each other and conduct video interviews directly through their mobile app.
It’s important to note that these are general job boards. That being said, professionals who are in a niche industry or capacity may do best with a niche job board.
