The Top Ways to Stay Productive While Working From Home

Today’s world is full of distractions; whether it be social media or just the everyday noises and attractions within your home. Often times, we reach the end of a workday and find that maybe we didn’t complete as much as we could have. While it’s common and expected, we’ve outlined a few tips that can help you increase your productivity in your at-home workplace.

Make deadlines for yourself.

Give yourself reasonable time frames of when you want to finish your tasks by and follow the plan. Allow room for the unexpected and don’t over schedule. It’s always helpful to give yourself a steady pace to work at. Giving yourself deadlines will help you hold yourself accountable for what needs to be done.

Focus on one thing at a time.

Multitasking does not always yield the best outcome. Focusing on one thing at a time will get tasks done more effectively and efficiently. If you try to spread yourself too thin and work on multiple items at once, it will prove to be unproductive because your energy and attention is spread across too many tasks. Put all of your energy into one task at a time to make sure you are giving it your full attention, and finishing it to the best of your ability.

Clear your mind!

It’s okay to take mental breaks; step away from your desk and take a couple of minutes to regroup your thoughts. We suggest taking a walk, grabbing a coffee, or meditating. Especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, taking some time for yourself will help you clear your mind and re-focus on what needs to be done. A small break will make a world of a difference!

Feeling stressed? Use these techniques to relieve work stress.

Limit Distractions.

Although we suggest taking breaks, when it is time to sit down and work on a task, you should make sure that all distractions are limited. For instance, tucking your phone into a drawer or bag can help you not feel the need to constantly check it. It could also be useful to set designated times that coworkers can pop in to chat or ask you questions. Doing so will eliminate the risk of small interruptions throughout the day.

Pro-Tip #1: Add plants to your desk!

Research shows that having something nice to look at on your desk, like plants, boost productivity. Surprisingly, they help foster a more creative and positive workplace environment.

Pro-Tip #2: Add Some Competition!

Friendly competition in the workplace can help boost productivity among all employees, especially if there’s a fun prize involved! Take some time to brainstorm how you can encourage your team to reach their goals by using different incentives.

While these tips are specific to the workplace, you can easily apply them to your everyday life. Clear your mind, focus on one thing at a time, and make sure your goals are realistic and attainable. We would love to hear your thoughts regarding how you stay productive in the workplace. Keep following along for more tips to master your productivity in your at-home workplace!
