As Massachusetts begins its phased approach to re-opening businesses, it is important for leaders to start preparing for the major changes that will have to occur. The approach will have four phases, spaced at least three weeks apart. Each phase will introduce more types of businesses that are allowed to re-open, with proper safety guidelines.

Businesses must be implementing new measures in order to follow the new Mandatory Workplace Standards that have been put into place. For example,
- All employees and customers must maintain a six foot distance from each other.
To ensure social distancing, businesses should make arrangements specific to their workplace that allow social distancing at all times. On top of that, businesses should require face coverings/masks among their team. There should also be signs emphasizing social distancing policies to incoming customers.
- Ensure hygiene and proper access to hygiene products within your workplace.
That being said, businesses need to provide access to hand washing supplies and make sure that all employees are frequently washing their hands. Also, frequently touched areas within the workspace need to be regularly and properly sanitized, including door knobs, restrooms, equipment, etc.
- Create clear protocols regarding cleanliness and sanitation within your business.
Every workplace is different, so protocols will depend on what type of business it is and where it is located. Just be sure to define the specific frequency of when the workplace should be disinfected, and a more intensive sanitization procedure for if a staff member is diagnosed with COVID-19.
- Ensure that all staff members are properly trained under new protocols.
This will include training them to regularly sanitize their workstation, washing their hands periodically, and ensuring social distancing. They should also not report to work for a specified period of time if any of them experience symptoms of COVID-19.
