How to Improve your Performance at Work

No matter where you are at in your career, there will always be room for improvement! Whether it be in communication, productivity, etc… Always strive to improve! Here are some of our tips on upping your skills and becoming a better version of yourself!

Identify your strengths and weaknesses

How can we improve if we aren’t even sure what might need improvement? Sit down and make a list of things that you feel you excel at and things you feel you could do better at. A “weakness” is not always a bad thing, we all have them, so just work on them! Find patterns in your work and self-reflect. Typically, what we dislike and try to avoid usually falls into the weakness category!

Set clear goals

Goal setting is always important. Just make sure that when creating goals, you are making S.M.A.R.T goals! Here are some tips and insights on SMART goals. Setting goals is the best way to keep track of your progress and know for sure how you are doing! It can also be beneficial to have other help, so you know what others think!

Prioritize and Plan

No matter what your day entails, it is always a good idea to take a step back and plan it out. Prioritize what tasks are most important, and go from there! Always complete your most difficult tasks first, so you aren’t trying to accomplish them when you may be burnt out from the day! Remember, things can come up during the day, so make sure you are keeping track of what needs to be done.

Eliminate distractions

While working, it is important to get rid of distractions. Whether it be turning on your phone, closing your door, or whatever may be interfering with your productivity. It is important to be able to focus, if you know you have a difficult task coming up, let your teammates know. People are able to work better when they can be focused.

Always finish what you start

If you start several tasks and drag on finishing them it will destroy your morale. If you have a problem completing tasks, make sure you are rewarding yourself when you do! Make it a habit, finish a task, and reward yourself. Eventually, it will boost your performance, and you will always have something to look forward to!

There are always ways to improve, and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. It is important to always strive to do better and to be better. Most things take some time to improve upon, so always make sure that you are giving yourself the chance to do better!
