Showing your appreciation in the workplace is important. Whether it be thanking someone for a job well done, or allowing someone to leave early for completing their tasks. A small gesture can make your employees feel more valued and appreciated. When an employee feels appreciated, it can motivate them to do more, do better, and take pride. An employee who feels valued is happier, more productive, and less likely to leave. Building relationships with your employees benefits both parties. You have a reliable employee, and they have a boss that cares. Here are signs that your employees feel appreciated.
You have a low turnover rate
We tend to see the highest turnover rates when morale is down. One of the most common reasons a person leaves a job is not the position itself, but because of their boss. “People quit bad bosses, not bad jobs”. If you have long-term employees, it can be a sign that your employees like you, they respect you. People, especially in today’s workforce aren’t going to stay somewhere they do not feel valued.
Your employees are putting in the effort
People who know that the work they do is noticed, and appreciated are going to put in more effort. If your employees are not happy, they are going to do the bare minimum, and go home. A good sign that your employees are feeling valued is that they aren’t rushing through things. They are diving deeper, completing tasks to the best of their ability.
Your employees are generally happy
This seems obvious but really look deeper. Are your employees happy when they come to work? Are they excited to provide you with their completed work? Are you able to have pleasant conversations with your employees on a regular basis? Happy employees are the best employees. And a happy employee starts with you.
Willingness to take on more
People who do not feel appreciated are not going to add more to their workload. An employee who feels valued and appreciated are going to be willing to take on extra tasks. If you ask an employee to complete an extra task, and they show eagerness to do so, that is a great sign that you are showing your employees appreciation. They know that doing this will not go unnoticed, and people like praise. It is in our nature to strive to be liked, valued, and appreciated.
YOU put in the effort
Are you putting in the effort when it comes to your employees? Are you hands-on with them? Yes, they are there to work their scheduled shift and go home.
